On Friday, the Google+ team has launched some new and improved plugins for your website. The plugins include the follow buttons, +1 buttons and adding people to your circles. Let’s start with the new Follow button.
There’s also a new badge for communities. Community managers have long been asking and waiting for a way to attract members across the web to their thriving community on Google+. On Friday, Google introduced badges for Google+ communities. As expected, these badges are very highly configurable. When visitors click the “Preview” button they’ll see your community page in a new browser tab. Then users can view recent posts, according to your community’s privacy settings.
Google also updated badges for Pages and profiles. Very similar to the new communities badges, the Page and Profile badges are highly customizable including both portrait and landscape modes, light and dark themes, and turning on/off items like the cover photo and tagline.
Existing badges will be around for another 90 days. Which gives you time to configure the new version for your website. After 90 days, Google will auto-upgrade your Google+ badges to the new design. Google also says that today’s plugin updates include a new visual style that’s more consistent with the recent improvement to Google+. Now this includes both the +1 and share buttons.
